So
you have been called to the Italy Catania Mission. The Mission was opened in about 1977, when it was split from the
Italy Rome Mission. President Leopold Larcher was the first
president until Lino P. Gambarotto was called in 1978.
Under Presidente Gambarotto's leadership, the mission blossomed.
SOG's were utilized for a time until The Standard of Excellence was
Introduced in early 1980. The Catania missionaries worked hard,
meeting goals, increasing baptisms, and setting records. During Presidente's last year in the field, the mission put up some very
impressive baptism statistics. It was at the time, the second most
productive mission in Europe, after Portugal Lisbon.
New cities were opened and membership not only grew, but members'
dedication was strengthened. As Presidente and Sorella toured the
mission just prior to returning to Argentina, the love of the members
was evident in the farewell programs, and overwhelming outpour of affection that
was showered on them. They departed the field July 1, 1981,
with the mission reaching 63 baptisms that month. The missionaries
became close in a way that seems atypical. Most have tried
to stay connected, cherishing the close bonds that were developed as we
shared the gospel with our Italian brothers and sisters.
New missionary - you are in for the experience of a lifetime!
Love the people. Help them build a Stake in Zion. We all
pray for your success. Forza Battesimi!!
